Grace Graduating

Can you imagine worshipping at a graduation ceremony?  Like for real and full on?  Recently, God moved through us as the Holy Spirit caught us up in graduation celebrations at Christian educational institutions here in the Nairobi area.

Like proud parents, Mimi and I participated in graduation ceremonies for dear African students that we have taught, mentored, and that HaMoreh has sponsored.  We thank you for your part in sending these young leaders on God's way.

Mimi and I only wish that you were here to watch and celebrate with us!

Against a backdrop of East African despair - lingering racial hatred and violence, runaway inflation, social degradation, rising criminality, and empty political posturing - Mimi and I witnessed young African Christians moving from years of training into positions of influence in their local cultures.  Mimi and I continue to rejoice as our Lord blesses these faithful graduates, their families, and the African societies that are now the beneficiaries of our Lord's provision.

Full of hope, fresh ideas, and energy, these young believers step onto the forefront of Africa's future, as those choice souls God is using to advance His kingdom here on earth.  Teachers, accountants, pastors, administrators, business men and women, nurses, doctors, moms, dads - Christ's church members living out the gospel day by day.  What joy we experience as we watch God's agents of redemption and reconciliation pass from one stage of life to the more far reaching opportunities God has prepared for them.

What a thrill ... precious young people who we have known for 3 years or so, young Christians that we have watched being transformed by the renewing of their minds ... now being sent out to transform the world!  (Rom. 12:1-2)

In a word, Mimi and I are filled with hope for the future as we watch God change the world, one mind at a time.  (Eph. 4:23)

We invite you to celebrate with us.

Love,

Jamie

My time in Kenya (so far) can be characterized nicely by an encounter that I had just last night. I was on my way across the beautiful KBTC campus to eat dinner and then go to bed, as I was very tired after six hours of class. On the way, there was a Kenyan man walking in the same direction and, as is custom in Kenya, we shook hands and greeted. He informed me of his name, Onesmus, and told me that he had just arrived in order to graduate the next day at the large ceremony KBTC would be ...

It began in ‘baby Hebrew' class, singing the 133rd psalm and being captivated by Jamie's stories of joy and life of a different kind. It continued in Kenya with a summer long practicum with another people, experiencing rich community in ways that left us permanently changed. That joy and that life continues to haunt us, to challenge us, and to bless us, even today. Psalm 133 was sung in anticipation of communal worship to the King. It is about how good and how marvelous life is when we ...
